The Light House recognizes that to end the cycle of homelessness, people need to have sustainable employment skills that will allow them to make a living wage so they can afford permanent housing. To reach that goal the Building Employment Success Training (B.E.S.T.) Program provides training to prepare students to work in the high demand fields of culinary arts and building trades. The two distinctive tracks prepare students by providing classroom training and a paid work experience with employers.
Culinary Arts: Includes all aspects of food preparation, nutrition, and catering. Class is taught between The Light House and our Light House Bistro social enterprise. The program is taught in collaboration by Light House Director of Culinary Arts, Linda Vogler, Light House Bistro General Manager, Beth Rocca, and B.E.S.T. Training leads.
Building Trades: Includes training in basic craft skills and safety to prepare students for work in building maintenance or in the construction trades. This program is taught in collaboration between Light House, Anne Arundel Workforce Development, and Associated Builders and Contractors staff.
